Last month, or rather a week ago I completed a white baby bonnet for my cousin’s little girl who will be christened in England later this month.  After taking some shots of the bonnet laying flat I knew it would look much better on a baby model.  Jr. made some bird noises that, once translated, equaled to: “Sure, I’ll do it!”  So, here it is.

Water Polo Anyone?

I haven’t knitted anything in a while and this seemed pretty quick and painless.  I’m really happy with the results. The instuctions were very easy to follow and it worked up really fast.  My only hope is that it fits baby Macie.

I used a light-weight cotton since its the middle of summer and added a vintage pink button to the neck strap.  You can find the pattern in Vintage Knits for a Modern Baby.  You can also download free patterns from the authors blog, She’s Crafty Handknits.  To view other examples of the bonnet head over to Ravelry.com.

Day Four: Long Version

On our fourth and final day I felt sad but relieved to be heading home. There was so much to do we just couldn’t fit it all in but I missed my guys and was looking foward to seeing their faces when I got home.  What we needed was a vacation from our vacation.

The famous Flatiron Building designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham

We decided to hop on one of the sight-seeing buses which is cheesy but its a great way to cover a lot of ground and get a great view of major landmarks.  We stuck with the downtown tour which was two and a half hours. Our tour guide was very entertaining and full of useless information that may come in handy at the next trivia night. Do you know what the star of Macy’s logo really means…um, I didn’t think so!

View of the Empire State Building signage.  I love the art-deco typeface.

The bus stopped a few blocks from South Central Park.  Even though our hotel was right across the street we didn’t walk through the park until the very last day.  We walked by the Strawberry Fields Memorial which, to me, wasn’t all that impressive but hey, it was working out for the guy and his guitar case full of tips!

After a quick bite to eat at Bouchon (again) we headed for the airport. While driving through the upper east side we had our first and only celebrity sighting.  We saw a petite blonde walking her tiny dog while wearing a oversided trucker hat and sunglasses.  She was stopped by a very enthusiastic woman walking her dog who was covering her mouth in surprise.  Words were exchanged and the celebrity turned away.  I didn’t see her face but E shouted out… ”That’s Paris Hilton!”

New Music

Since Jr. is at daycare that also has a gym, I’ve been heading to the fitness center twice a week before picking him up.  I’m not a huge fan of the treadmill so I’ve been loading up my iPod in hopes that it will magically distract me from feeling like a hampster on a wheel. It’s not work-ing but it’s better than no music at all. I can’t be the only person that has to stare at my feet to prevent a disasterous fall.  Or am I?

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been listening to while running and if you have any other suggestions, I’m all ears…get it….oh hush!

Spring is here!

Woohoo.  I’m able to post pictures again.  What a relief.  I was having some issues for a while.

I’m so excited that Spring is FINALLY here!  Being cooped up indoors all winter with Jr. has not been good for him. Now that its nice out he loves going for long walks in the stoller and with all the flowers and trees in bloom I’m able to get some pretty shots.

I took this one last weekend with Ian in my arms.  He was so busy checking out his surrounds he didn’t make the slightest move!

A while back I purchased this chair on Ebay. I know, the fabric is HID-EY-US but the over all style of the chair was exactly what I was looking for.  See its actually a rocker/glider.  It may not look like a traditional rocking chair but that’s what I like about it.

There appeared to be some wear and tear on the arms so we cleaned them up by sanding them down and applying a clear coat of varnish.  They look brand new. The legs could use the same treatment but for now they’ll do.

I found some durable microsuede fabric in a solid light blue color called Spa.  I chose a solid rather than a print fabric as it could work well in any room of our house but for now it will be part of the baby’s room.

Since it was a little more complicated than adding some padding and a few staples I contacted a local reupholstery guy to do the work for us and now its back at the Casa de Buscher!

The Heaven Project psp

He was recommended to us by a friend and was very reasonably priced.  I think he did a great job and I look foward to using it A LOT this winter.  If only there was time to make a matching ottoman cover…hum.  How hard can that be, right?

So, for the past few months I’ve participated in the company bowling league.  I do admit that I enjoy bowling.  It’s an excuse to drink beer and hang out with work buddies.  I’m usually thoroughly entertained by the people that take it so seriously my teammates included! Now that the season is over awards were given out.  Low and behold, this one had my name on it!

As soon I saw this I burst out laughing.  Everything about this is funny to me!  First, the woman with the mullet, yes, she has a mullet.  She’s also wearing a skirt and although she has a bowling ball in her hand she looks ready for the 800 meter dash. She stands atop a column decorated with metallic stars and waves that look like flames!  Sweet.  Oh ya, and there is an eagle atop a bowling ball.  Not sure what that has to do with anything but get out the devil horns cause this thing ROCKS!!!

Blog milestone

Since starting this little blog last August I’ve been amazed by all the different ways that people have stumble across my little home in blogland.  This outlet has really helped my creative side come back to life! It encourages me to share projects as well as come up with unique ideas of my own that I can then share with others.  Much like when we were kids and we’d run home to show Mom what we made in class.

Thanks to all those that have stopped by, made comments, and entered my little giveaways.  People often ask…”why do you make things then give them away?”  As a relatively new crafter it allows me to improve my skillz while making someone’s day a little brighter!

I continued to be inspired by other bloggers and have goals of creating original tutorials, sharing places and things I’ve found and to hopefully inspire others. The Jewel of the Nile trailer

I guess I’m a sucker for last minute projects but this idea came to mind tonight and with my parents stay at our house this Christmas I had to do something creative.

This is my idea for a candy cane table runner.  I used some leftover bright red canvas (Ikea) and some white wool felt.  It’s not much but it does add a little red and white to the holiday dinner table. I can’t take any credit for the flower arrangement however.  That’s came from the grocery store.

We’ll be having a light dinner tomorrow night followed by movies and games like Jenga and Trivial Pursuit.  Always entertaining after a few evening cocktails!  I’m looking forward to spending time with Mom and Dad before they head to Santa Barbara on Christmas Day to visit my big brother.

Have a great Christmas everyone!

12 days of gifts

YAY!!!  The 12 days gift exchange is in full-effect.  You may recall the post from last month and now I  can finally show my contribution to the exchange. These crochet flower pins were a breeze to make.  The pattern is from Crochet to Go.  With the addition of the vintage black button. I think it would be fun to make a bunch of these flowers and sew them all together to make a pillow.  Hum..that may need to be added to the long list of to-dos!  To see more handmade gifts be sure to check out the Midwest 12 Days blog.

oh….no, no, no!  Plastic shoes have no business being in or around the corporate work place.

So, for past 8 months I’ve been working for an I.T. department in the Midwest. I realize that I.T. organizations don’t exactly follow the latest fashion trends but that doesn’t mean that bad fashion choices are acceptable.  I’m not saying that I’m some like of fashionista but I do try to make an effort when I leave the house.  Some of the things I’ve seen over the past few months are so BAD I thought it was worth writing about.
