New music: Phoenix

I picked up a new cd this week and as soon as I listened to it in the car I knew right away that this will get played a lot this summer.  It’s by the french alternative band called Phoenix. Not to worry the lyrics aren’t actually in french.  Their latest album is called Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and its a great mix of songs for a long run or interstate road trip.

It’s the kind of fun, pop-rock that I love. I won’t attempt to critique it but if you’re looking for a good review you can check this one out from Pitchforkmedia.com. I purchased my copy at Target for only $9.99.

Other favorite bands at the moment:
Elbow
, Glasvegas, Matt & Kim, Kings of Leon

Holiday Music

Earlier this year my friend and coworker Jerome told me about a great podcast that he’s been listening to and I have to agree that it rocks! The podcast is called Sound Opinions and is broadcast via Chicago Public Radio.

This week, hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot talk about vintage holiday music finds.  There are some fun but quirky picks! You can download the entire 20th anniversary compilation, “The Cassette Years: Part 1” for FREE through Jan. 2nd at http://christmas.soundopinions.org/

Enjoy!

Centro-matic

My hubby and I went to a great show last night!  Yes, I know it was a school night but we’ve seen Centro-matic quite a few times and they never seem to disappoint.  It made for a late night but it was well worth it!

Centro-matic hails from Denton, TX but don’t be fooled by their location, they are not a country band.  I’m no music critic so I won’t even try to describe their sound. I just know that I like them…I like them a lot!  Their other band South San Gabriel (all members of Centro-matic + 2) were recently featured on NPR’s song of the day.

Here are a couple of links if you’re interested in checking them out.
