This past weekend, the hubby and I had an impromptu date night. We headed down to Cherokee street for some authentic mexican food before hitting 2720 gallery for a one-night only art show called Drawgasmic. Although their website claimed to have 1000 artist pieces on exhibition it didn’t feel that big. 

All the pieces where 8.5 by 11 on paper.  There were a lot of prints/copies of work and not as many original pieces as I would have hoped but I did take this piece home with me.  It was the first one I saw that I really liked. It’s a watercolor and ink original piece and I just had to have it!

It’s called “Seemed like a good idea at the time” and the artist goes by the name Kill Taupe.  His Flickr site has all his latest creations and if you like what you see, be sure to check out his Etsy site too.  There’s a great print called “Gary Takes up Knitting.”  Awesome!

So, I haven’t been to an art show in a really long time and as soon as I saw a guy in a light blue Power Rangers t-shirt and oversized eyeglasses I immediately thought of LATFH.com which is now a hysterical book. You can find it on Amazon. 

The show itself was okay but the important thing to remember is that it featured independent and afforable art. This type of show doesn’t come around very often and it was great to see so many people in attendance and buying art! 

When my dear friend E asked what I would like to do for a baby shower, I suggested a book shower for Baby B.  Since she was doing all the work I couldn’t help but come up with a fun little illustration for the event so I created this cute little bookworm for use on the email invite.

As a way of sharing the special day I created a pdf of Bookworm Bookplates for you to download and print.  You can either print on regular cardstock and use doublesided tape to adhere to the book or you can print this straight to label paper. Enjoy!

Baby Shower Details
Sunday’s shower was a wonderful low-key afternoon with the girls.  We played a baby name game using scrabble letters that gave everyone a laugh.  The names Axl and Zorro found there way onto one teams list.  Awe-some!  I don’t see either names making the final list but A for effort.

As for the books there was a great selection and I’m so thrilled that everyone got into the idea. The books ranged from the classics like Green Eggs and Ham and Best Mother Goose Ever  to modern sculpture art books.  Cool developmental Infant books like White on Black made it into the stack and no childrens collection is complete without Everybody Poops!

E did a fantastic job organizing and I can’t thank her enough!  So, if you’re looking for a non-traditional shower idea I highly reccomend this one.  It allows friends and family to personalize their selection while building a library that the little one will enjoy for years to come.

The hubby and I are head to Chicago this weekend.  We haven’t really been anywhere all summer execpt for a trip to the lake and with baby Buscher’s impending arrival it will be a while before we can plan another weekend get-away. 

There are all kinds of events going on this weekend including the Renegade Craft Fair.  My friend & jewelry designer, Elizabeth Williams, will have a booth (No. 57) so if you’re in-town be sure to stop by or you can check out her Etsy store.  Artist and plush toy maker Shawnimals will be there as well as one of my favorite silkscreen clothing designers Harrilu.  There are over 300 booths this year! 

I hope to do some crafting of my own on the drive up there.  As always.  I’m working on another crocheted frog like the one I made last year only this one will be yellow.  I just hope the weather will as nice as weather.com is predicting.  Fingers crossed.  Two-da-loo for now!
